Early Type
AIR CONDITIONING UNIT, EARLY TYPERENEW
- Disconnect the battery earth lead.
- Drain the engine coolant into a suitable container.
- Depressurise the air conditioning system.
- Remove the console assembly.
- Remove the fascia board.
- Disconnect the air conditioning switch panel optical fibres from the opticell and displace from gaiter.
- Displace the optical fibres from the air conditioning unit.
- Remove the switch panel.
- Remove the screws securing the face level differential control assembly and displace the panel.
- Disconnect the differential potentiometer block connector and displace the panel for access.
- Remove the screws securing the lower plate and remove the plate.
- Disconnect the optical fibre.
- Refit and secure the lower plate.
- Drill out 'pop' rivets securing the radio.
- Remove the washers.
- Displace the radio for access.
- Note and disconnect radio, speaker and aerial wires.
- Remove the earth strap to radio securing nut and remove the radio.
- Reposition radio harness through the unit.
- Remove the nuts securing the air conditioning support stay.
- Displace the tunnel carpet for access.
- Remove the lower bolts securing air conditioning unit stays and remove the stays.
- Slacken the coolant hose to heater matrix pipe securing clips and disconnect the hoses from the matrix.
- Undo the refrigerent hose to evaporator and expansion valve union nuts and disconnect the hoses.
- Remove and discard the '0' rings.
- Fit blanking plugs to hoses, evaporator and expansion valve.
- Remove air conditioning unit to bulkhead securing nuts.
- From inside the vehicle:- Disconnect the pliable trunking from unit.
- Reposition seats rearwards for access.
- Displace and remove air conditioning unit stub pipes.
- Remove the demister duct outlet securing screws.
- Remove the demister duct outlet.
- Remove the demister duct assembly to bulkhead securing screw.
- Remove demister duct assembly to bulkhead securing nuts/bolts.
- Unclip the main harness from demister duct.
- Remove harness to bulkhead support securing nuts.
- Displace the 'P' clips and earth leads.
- Untape the blower assembly vacuum pipes.
- Disconnect the blower motor vacuum pipesat 'T' piece.
- Disconnect the water valve and main vacuum feed hoses at tunnel position.
- Displace and remove left hand ventilator outlet duct.
- Disconnect left hand blower motor block connector.
- Remove steering column support bracket securing nuts/bolts and reposition the bracket for access.
- Disconnect the right hand blower motor block connector.
- Displace and remove right hand ventilator outlet duct.
- Disconnect the condensate drain tubes.
- Disconnect air conditioning unit main feed block connector.
- Displace harness as far as possible from unit.
- Displace and remove air conditioning unit from the vehicle.
- Remove centre vent duct securing drive fasteners and remove the centre duct.
- Disconnect demister duct and centre vent vacuum servos.
- Remove centre vent duct mounting bracket securing screws.
- Remove duct mounting bracket/air con unit stay mounting bracket securing nuts/bolts.
- Remove stay mounting brackets and vent mounting brackets.
- Remove centre vent/demister duct assembly securing screws and remove vent assmbly.
- To fit a new air conditioning unit reverse the removal procedure.
- Ensure new '0' rings are fitted to all air conditioning hose connections.
- Refill the engine coolant system with coolant.
- Recharge the air conditioning system.
