Two Methods For Recovering/Towing
90jaguar03VEHICLE RECOVERY/TOWING SECTION: 76
No: 54
Model: XJ-S JAGUARSPORT Date: APRIL, 1990
KEY POINTS: FLATBED/REAR WHEEL LIFT
When recovering/towing XJ-S vehicles incorporate the JaguarSport Body Kit, either of the following two methods should be used:
FLATBED TRANSPORTATION:
Load the vehicle front first onto the flatbed vehicle. When fully extended (for loading or unloading) the flatbed angle to the ground must not exceed 11 degrees. Additional ramping is required to prevent the front or rear under panels from upcoming in contact with the ground.
The winch cable must be attached to the front bumper supports using the following procedure:
^ Thread the nylon loops (JAG 509, included in the vehicle tool kit located in the trunk) over the struts supporting the front bumper to provide two attachment points just below the bumper.
^ Use a short chain (3 to 4 ft. long) to link the two loops together and enable a center pull for the winch cable.
NOTE: Flatbed recovery is the best method and is necessary for long trips.
REAR WHEEL LIFT:
A rigid wheel lift can be used on the rear wheels only for short recover trips. To prevent the front spoiler from coming in contact with the ground, at least 4 in. of clearance must exist between the spoiler and the ground when the lift is raised.
