Parking Brake System: Description and Operation

Handbrake Lever:

Handle and pulleys

Handbrake Cable:

Cable

Handbrake Caliper:

Calipers

CONSTRUCTION
The handbrake system consists of:
^ Locking actuating handle
^ Connecting cable
^ Handbrake calipers (2)

OPERATION
The handbrake is operated by pulling the handle away from the dash. The handle will lock into place and must be twisted to release.

The handle pulls on a cable that is connected to the caliper levers. The levers are pulled toward each other and caused the calipers to squeeze the rear brake discs.

The calipers are automatically adjusted, if needed, each time the handle is pulled. If one or both of the caliper adjusters become stuck, the effectiveness of the system will gradually become weak and inoperative.
