Overhaul

- Remove the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP / REMOVE & REFIT.
- Remove the eight bolts and lock washers and detach the pump cover from the gear housing.

Oil Pump:

- Mark the drive gear/driven gear relationship (1) to be sure of correct reassembly.
- Remove both gears, wash all parts in clean paraffin or solvent and dry with compressed air.
- Check the condition of all gear teeth and remove any burrs with a fine file.
- Refit the driven gear and check the radial clearance between the gear and housing (2).

NOTE: Checks should not be made at the six radial flats on the gear

- Refit the drive gear and check the radial clearance between gear and crescent (3). Radial clearance should be between O.OO7in and O.O1Oin (0.178 mm and 0.254 mm). Radial clearance should be between O.OO5 in and O.O12 in (0.152 mm and 0.305 mm).

Oil Pump:

- Check the gear end float using a straight edge across the joint face. Measure the clearance between the straight edge and gears (1). End float must not exceed O.OO5 in (0.127 mm). If any of the tolerances are outside the figures given then the oil pump must be replaced.
- Reassemble the pump. Note the drive gear/driven gear relationship.
- Fit new lock washers. Fit and tighten the securing bolts.
- Refit the oil pump
