Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
This procedure applies to right or left fuel tank.1. Drain fuel tank.
2. Disconnect battery and remove tail light assembly for access to fuel tank sending unit connectors. Note position of wiring and disconnect wires.
3. Remove side section of rear bumper.
Fuel Tank:
4. Remove screws, nuts and bolts securing lower rear quarter panel and remove panel.
Fuel Filler Neck:
5. Remove four screws securing fuel filler neck to body.
6. Be careful of paint and pry filler neck assembly from body.
Fuel Filler Neck:
7. Pull vent hose from stub on neck assembly.
8. Remove gasket and O-ring seal.
9. In trunk, remove side trim panel and disconnect fuel line from side of tank. Also remove mounting bolt and washer.
10. At bottom of fuel tank, disconnect fuel pipe. Separate connection and carefully push pipe inward, flush with panel.
Fuel Tank:
11. In muffler tunnel, remove two mounting bolts and recover adjustment wedges. It is helpful to loosen muffler heat shield to gain easier access to bolts.
12. Remove self-locking nut from hanger bolt.
13. Lower fuel tank from fender well.
14. Reverse steps to refit. Check for leaks BEFORE refitting lower quarter panel.
