SECTION I - Verification of Purge System Specification

A purge system change on 1987 XJS vehicles built after VIN 133461 has created a situation where two different purge systems were in use on '87 XJ-S vehicles. The later system (after VIN 133461) can be identified by the two relays mounted on the radiator support (ref. fig. 1).

If the vehicle is equipped with the two relays, indicating the latest specification system, proceed to section II, "Installation Of Recall Kit."

If the relays are NOT on the radiator support, the vehicle must be inspected to see if purge kit JLM 832 was installed after the vehicle was put into service.





To inspect a vehicle for installation of kit JLM 832, locate the part load breather pipe (ref. Fig. 2). Follow the hose leading toward the charcoal canister until the purge valve is reached. If an electric purge valve is fitted, install only the electrical portion of kit JLM 832, then proceed to section II "installation of recall kit". Installation instructions for kit JLM 832 are attached. If the vehicle is equipped with a vacuum controlled purge valve proceed to section II Installation of Recall Kit.
