General System Description

Kiekurt door locking system was introduced onto Series III XJ6 from VIN-428715. The main change from the previous system is the use of electric motors to operate the locks on all doors and trunk, superceding the use of electric solenoids activated by a control unit. The change also allows the deletion of the lock relays, but required harness changes and therefore vehicles manufactured before VIN-428715 cannot be retrofitted with the new system.

The door lock units are mounted to brackets that are welded onto door rails. The trunk lock motor is mounted on the inner panel of the trunk lid next to the lock assembly.

The locks are activated from the driver's door interior lock tab or the exterior key. The trunk is "locked only" from the driver's door and must be unlocked with a key.
