KEY POINTS: INSTALLATION OF TOWING EYE
A vehicle towing eye is now available for XJ6 and VDP 3.6 vehicles. The towing eye has been introduced on production commencing from VIN 528377. The installation procedure is as follows:

Installation Procedure:

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the bumper by removing the two bolts and disconnecting the electrical connectors.

3. Remove the right horn and discard the positioning bracket.

4. Remove the screws at the front of the brake cooling air duct.

5. Remove the right lower panel attached by seven screws.

6. Remove the right rear panel and air duct attached by two screws and four bolts.

7. Remove the washer pump hose(s) and drain the reservoir.

8. Loosen the upper reservoir bracket bolts and disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the two lower reservoir bracket bolts and remove the reservoir.

9. Loosen the two side spoiler bolts.

10. Cut the tie wrap and remove the remaining three bumper strut bolts and remove the strut. Discard the existing strut bolts.

11. The towing eye fits over the strut and the two are installed as a unit strut and towing eye).

12. Position the strut and towing eye to the body and loosely install the right front bolt.


NOTE: The wires and connectors run below the strut.
13. Install the horn with the bracket between the eye and the strut. Do not fully tighten mounting bolt.

14. Remove the right front bolt and place the spacer washer between the towing eye and the strut. Reinstall the bolt loosely. Install the two rear bolts loosely.

15. Position the horn and hold the eye and strut assembly up and back. Tighten and torque the four bolts to 17-19 ft.lbs. (23-27 N-m).


CAUTION: Do not pinch or damage wires and harnesses.


16. Reinstall the remaining components in reverse order. Torque bumper bolts to 30-37 ft.lbs. (40-50 N-m.)

17. Refill the washer reservoir with approved fluid.
