KEY POINTS: MODIFIED HEAT SHIELD TO ELIMINATE CATALYST AREA RESONANCE AND RATTLE
To eliminate catalyst heat shield resonance and rattle, a modified heat shield has been introduced on production commencing from VIN 522802.

This modification can be carried out as a service fix using the following procedures.

1. Raise vehicle on a lift.

2. Remove the existing catalyst heat shield.

3. Cut off the inlet nose (A, Fig. 1).
4. Cut off the same area from another stock heat shield Part No. CAC 8298/1 and fit one inside the other.

5. Spotweld (or bolt) the two heat shields together, see diagram for positions (X, Fig. 1).

6. Refit the modified heat shield assembly to the vehicle.

7. Check exhaust system for exhaust leaks.
