MATERIAL - "JURID 518"
SECTION: 70
No : 3
Model: XJ6 3.6 Date: MARCH, 1988
KEY POINTS: REVISED BRAKE LINING MATERIAL JURID 518
To reduce brake pulsation, pull, and noise, a revised brake lining material known as "Jurid 518" has been introduced beginning with VIN 533361.
Jurid pads can also be used as a service fix for vehicles with the above brake conditions. However, if brake pulsation exists, it may also be necessary to replace the discs.
NOTE: Unless excessive brake disc wear exists, brake noise and pull require the replacement of brake pads only.
Jurid 518 brake pads must be used only in complete vehicle sets. Parts information is as follows:
Complete Vehicle Set: JLM 1280
Front Axle Set: JLM 1281
Rear Axle Set: JLM 1282
NOTE: These pads can be identified by the word "Jurid 518" printed on the top face of the pad.
When installing Jurid 518, pads on vehicles not originally equipped with these pads (pre VIN 533361), it is also necessary to replace the brake pad sensor link leads. Parts information is as follows:
Link Lead Kit: JLM 1415
NOTE: The link lead kit needs to be installed only once to enable the installation of the Jurid pads.
Brake Bedding-In Procedure:
NOTE: The brake bedding-in procedure must be adhered to ensure proper brake pad performance.
At least 10-20 stops should be taken from speeds not exceeding 50 miles/hr. Each stop must be separated by a minimum of 3/4 mile, using varying amounts of pedal pressure and braking time.
Brake friction levels should have increased significantly after 10-20 stops. If not, additional bedding-in should be performed.
CAUTION: Part numbers included in Service Bulletins are for reference only and should always be cross referenced with the latest parts information.
