High Compression Engine - Identification

KEY POINTS: HIGH COMPRESSION AJ6 ENGINE
Commencing from engine number 9D 122724, all XJ6 3.6 vehicles incorporate a high compression engine (9.6:1 compression ratio).


High compression engines have been progressively introduced into production from VIN

521255. All XJ6 3.6 vehicles incorporate this engine from VIN 521298.


High compression engine vehicles can be identified from both the engine serial number prefix and the vehicle identification number (VIN).


FOR ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER IDENTIFICATION

The letter "A" in the fourth position of the engine serial number prefix indicates high compression engines. The letter "B" in the fourth position of the prefix indicates a low compression engine.


For example, the following engine serial number indicates a high compression engine:

9DPANA122724


"A" indicates high compression


FOR VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER IDENTIFICATION

The number "6" in the seventh position of the vehicle identification number indicates a high compression engine. The number "5" in this position indicates a low compression engine.


For example, the following VIN indicates a low compression engine:

SAJHV154?JC500001


"5" indicates low compression
CAUTION: High compression engine vehicles require the use of "Premium" grade unleaded fuels only


All XJ6 3.6 vehicles with high compression engines are fitted with a "Premium Unleaded

Fuel" label, which is positioned adjacent to the fuel filler cap.
