Jaguar Cars Exports Ltd. has determined that on a range of 1988 Jaguar XJ6 and Vanden Plas 3.6 vehicles the possibility exists that due to stress corrosion certain front suspension lower spring pan fixings may fail which may allow the vehicle's front suspension to settle onto the bump stop on one side or the other.

DEALER VEHICLE CAMPAIGN LIST:
"Dealer Campaign List" not included listing affected vehicles which, according to our records to date were invoiced to you. You will be receiving additional vehicles that do not appear on this list. We anticipate affected vehicles to be in the distribution system for the next several weeks. Please check all new vehicle shipments and ensure that any new vehicle affected by this recall is repaired prior to delivery.
If any vehicle listed under dealer stock has, in fact, been retailed, the dealer must contact the owner and advise him to return the vehicle for the necessary recall repair. All new vehicles must be modified before delivery.
If a list is not enclosed, then, according to our records, you did not receive any of the affected vehicles.
The occasion may arise where you are asked to perform recall campaign work on a vehicle that was not invoiced to you (i.e. transient owner, etc.). In such a case, normal procedure should be followed.
OWNER NOTIFICATION:
Commencing March 2, 1988 (Campaign Launch Date), all owners of record will be sent recall notifications by first class mail, together with a letter advising them of this condition. (A copy of the owner's letter is shown.) They will be asked to contact their selling dealer or nearest authorized Jaguar dealer if more convenient and make an appointment to have their vehicle attended to. They will also be asked to sign and turn over the "Campaign Claim" form to you after the work has been performed.

PARTS INFORMATION
* Ensure the Parts Manager receives a copy of this bulletin.
Replacement parts will be shipped to you, chargeable, by your Zone Office. Initial parts supply to cover 20% of your vehicle park will arrive at your dealership by the campaign launch date. A similar quantity will arrive approximately one week later. Reimbursement for labor and parts will be through the normal campaign system. Adequate supplies of "D325" campaign completion labels are not included in this copy of this bulletin.
NOTE:
Some spring pans supplied to you under this recall will have affixed Part Number CAC 5724 and CAC 5725 (the old part numbers). These pans are suitable for use for recall D325 and will be identified with a yellow paint mark.

1988 XJ6 3.6 - Spring Pan Bolt Inspection / Replacement
Workshop Instructions
Inspection
1. Raise vehicle on suitable hoist.
2. Inspect bolts securing the spring pans to the lower wishbones on both right and left side front.
If all the bolts are in position and intact then proceed with procedure "A". If any bolts or bolt heads are missing proceed with procedure "B".
Procedure "A" - Bolts Intact And In Position
1. Install Spring Compressor Tool JD 115 as detailed in Operation Number 60.20.03 of the XJ6 3.6 Service Manual.
2. With special tool in place, replace the bolts securing the spring pans to the wishbones ONE AT A TIME.
Fit replacement bolts, Part Number AGU 2551/K, set of 12.(The new bolt type may be identified by the codes 10.9 on the top face of the bolt head). Tighten to a torque of 55-60 Nm. / 40-45 lbs. ft. It is advisable when tightening the bolts to use a single hexagon (6 sided) socket.
3. Loosen the anti-roll bar link arm lower securing nut one flat and retighten to a torque of 55-60 Nm. / 40-45 lbs. ft. Repeat for the other side.
4. Remove spring compressor, special tool number JD 115.
Procedure "B" - Bolt(s) Missing/Head(s) Sheared
1. Remove the spring pan using Service Tool JD 115 as detailed in Operation Number 60.20.03 of the XJ6 3.6 Service Manual.
2. Remove any threaded portion(s) of sheared bolt(s) from the lower wishbones. Check the threads in the wishbones for signs of debris or damage.
IF THE THREADS ARE DAMAGED, THE WISHBONE MUST BE REPLACED.
3. Inspect the spring pan(s) for damage or distortion, particularly in the vicinity of the mounting holes. If any damage or distortion is evident then the spring pan must be renewed.
Revised spring pans can be ordered using the following Part Numbers:
RHS - CBC 7277
LHS - CBC 7278
NOTE:
Initial quantities will still have the old Part Numbers stamped on them but will be identified by yellow paint.
4. Refit the spring pan and secure with replacement bolts, Part Number AGU 2551/K, set of 12. (The new bolt type may be identified by the code 10.9 on the top face of the bolt head). Tighten to a torque of 55-60 Nm. / 40-45 lbs. ft. It is advisable when tightening the bolts to use a single hexagon (6 sided) socket.
5. Loosen the anti-roll bar link arm lower securing nut one flat and retighten to a torque of 55-60 Nm. / 40-45 lbs. ft. Repeat for the other side.
6. Remove spring compressor, special tool number JD 115.
* Insert your Zone and Dealer number in the boxes provided on a "D325" campaign completion label and affix to the uppermost crossmember of the underside of the hood.
