ENGINE MANAGEMENT
SECTION: 18

No: 5
Model: XJ6 3.6 Date: OCTOBER, 1988

KEY POINTS: BASE IDLE SPEED
Beginning with engine number 9D135613 (approximate VIN 533971), a revised heated breather housing (EAC 7019) incorporating a reduced orifice diameter has been introduced on XJ6 3.6 vehicles.

The breather housing, which is heated by engine coolant, is located midway on the top side of the intake manifold.

The revised housing will enable the base idle speed to be set within specification on all XJ6 3.6 vehicles.

NOTE: The term "base idle speed" refers to the engine speed with the idle speed control valve wound closed by JDS during engine set up.

Engine base idle speeds vary depending on what type of ECU is incorporated on the vehicle. This information is as follows:

Engine ECU (Part Number) Base Idle Speed

DBC 2911 (low compression) 650-680 RPM
DBC 3711 (low compression) 570-630 RPM
DBC 3713, 4313 (high compression) 570-630 RPM
