ENGINE IDLE
SECTION: 18
No: 1
Model: XJ6 3.6 Date: JANUARY, 1988
KEY POINTS: ENGINE BASE IDLE SETTING
There have been reports that following the replacement of the Idle Speed Control Valve, the engine base idle speed cannot be reduced to specification.

To rectify this situation, the following procedure should be performed:

1. Loosen the four idle speed control valve retaining screws.

2. Reposition the valve ensuring that the tapered end of the adjusting screw is centralized with the inlet manifold bypass drilling as illustrated.
3. Tighten the retaining screws and adjust the engine base idle speed using the JDS Engine Set-Up procedure.
