Idle Up Control Valve: Description and Operation
Idle Air Components:
PURPOSE
The valve is ECU activated to allow entry of a measured amount of additional bypass air during cold-start and warm-up at temperatures below 14°F (-10°C).
OPERATION
The valve is a normally closed solenoid device. In addition to temperature, throttle potentiometer and engine speed inputs are factored into ECU valve control.
To prevent idle "hunting," the ECU ensures that the idle speed control valve immediately assumes idle speed regulation upon supplementary air valve closing.
LOCATION
In a hose which directs bypass air around the throttle plate.
