Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation
Air Temperature Sensor:
PURPOSE
By monitoring changes in a reference signal caused by sensor resistance variations, the ECU calculates values for intake air temperature. This input is factored into ECU calculations for outputs such as fuel metering, ignition timing and idle speed control. At 75°F (24°C), sensor signal to the ECU is approximately 2.32V.
OPERATION
The sensor is a device whose resistance varies with changes in intake air temperature. Resistance changes are interpreted by the ECU as air temperature fluctuations.
LOCATION
In intake air elbow.
