Console: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove screws securing ventilation outlet and side trim casings. Pull each casing forward until it can be removed.
3. Remove heater and ventilation knobs from control spindles.
4. Remove threaded locking rings from heater and ventilation controls. Withdraw panel to gain access to center parcel shelf securing screws, then remove screws. Use caution to not damage fiber optic elements.
5. Remove screws securing top of center parcel shelf. Withdraw shelf slightly and disconnect the sensor line.
6. Remove cigar lighter and ashtrays.
7. Remove screws securing control escutcheon. Raise escutcheon slightly and disconnect cigar lighter, door lock and window switch harnesses. Remove escutcheon.
8. Remove front seat cushions, then move seats fully forward.
9. Remove screws securing rear window switch panel.
10. Raise panel slightly and disconnect electrical connectors, then remove panel.
11. Remove screws securing rear of console to transmission tunnel.
12. Disconnect multi-plug connector from rear of console.
13. Raise rear console and remove screws securing wiring harness to the air duct.
14. Slide console toward rear of vehicle until access to electrical harness is possible. Disconnect harness from clips.
15. Pass radio and ventilation panel through outlet in console, at the same time sliding console away from I/P. Ensure radio is adequately supported.
16. Disconnect air duct from ventilation outlet.
17. Lift console over transmission selector/gear lever.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
