Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
Crankshaft Pulleys:
- Remove the radiator.
- Remove the fan clutch unit.
- Remove the P/S pump drive belt.
- Remove the alternator drive belt.
- Remove the compressor air pump drive belt.
- Remove the pulley securing bolts (1) and withdraw the pulley.
- Remove the crankshaft damper bolt (2).
- Loosen off the damper by striking with a hide mallet.
- Withdraw the damper and cone (3), retrieve both Woodruff keys from the cone and crankshaft (4).
- Examine all components for wear and damage. Replace worn or damaged components as necessary.
- Fit two NEW Woodruff keys to the cone and crankshaft.
- Fit the replacement damper/cone, fit and tighten the crankshaft damper bolt.
- Fit the pulley, fit and tighten the securing bolts.
- Refit the compressor air pump drive belt.
- Refit/adjust the alternator drive belt.
- Refit/adjust the P/S pump drive belt.
- Refit the fan clutch unit.
NOTE: Be sure that the paint marks on the fan clutch unit align.
- Refit the radiator.
- Refill the coolant system.
- Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system.
- Refit the air cleaners.
TORQUE FIGURES
Compressor/air pump pivot 20-27 Nm
Crankshaft damper bolt 172-206 Nm
Crankshaft pulley to damper 16.5-21 Nm
Fan cowl bracket to lower crossmember 8-9.5 Nm
Fan cowl to body 8-9.5 Nm
Fan mounting to cowl 8-9.5 Nm
Mounting bracket to fan motor 8-9.5 Nm
Oil cooler pipes 54-6O Nm
