Engine: Service and Repair
1. Relieve fuel system pressure as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2. Disconnect battery cables and drain coolant.
3. Remove hood, air cleaner element and front grille.
4. Disconnect heater valve hose from cylinder head.
5. Disconnect hose from water pump return line.
6. Disconnect receiver/dryer from radiator top rail, but do not remove from vehicle.
7. Disconnect amplifier harness, coil and amplifier from radiator top rail.
8. Remove fan cowl from radiator, then the top rail.
9. Disconnect both radiator hoses and overflow line from radiator.
10. Disconnect thermostatic switch wires, then remove radiator.
11. Remove receiver/dryer mounting clamps, then the radiator auxiliary electric fan.
12. Remove front engine compartment bay tie bars, then horns and brackets.
13. Disconnect engine oil cooler lines.
14. Remove oil cooler radiator, then move receiver/dryer unit as far forward in engine compartment as possible.
15. Remove A/C compressor from engine.
16. Disconnect white engine electrical block connectors.
17. Disconnect power steering pump and remove coupling.
18. Disconnect HT lead from ignition coil. Disconnect front right harness electrical plugs.
19. Disconnect expansion tank hoses, then the fuel line from the fuel rail.
20. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle tower.
21. Remove throttle support bracket from intake manifold, then disconnect fuel line from pressure regulator.
22. Remove brake servo, then the vacuum lines from the intake manifold.
23. Disconnect starter motor electrical wires.

24. Install engine support tools No. 18G-1465 and MS-53B or equivalents, to engine. Fig. 1.
25. Raise and support front of vehicle.
26. Remove engine ground strap and exhaust pipe.
27. Disconnect speedometer transducer block connector and remove intermediate heat shield.
28. Disconnect gear selector cable from gear selector shaft.
29. Disconnect cable from transmission mounting bracket.
30. Support transmission with a suitable jack and remove center mount.
31. Remove rear heat shield, then the driveshaft.
32. Lower vehicle and remove engine support tool No. MS-53B. Fig. 1.
33. Connect a suitable ``H'' frame sling to engine hoist.
34. Using a hoist and jack, remove engine and transmission as an assembly from engine compartment. Use care to not damage steering rack.
35. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
