Evacuating the System
System Evacuation- Once the system has been opened for repairs, it must be fully evacuated with a vacuum pump to remove all traces of moisture before being recharged with new refrigerant. Moisture may collect and freeze in the expansion valve which will block the refrigerant flow and prevent the cooling action. Moisture will also react with refrigerant 12 and cause corrosion of the small passages in the system.
- The desiccant in the dryer bottle can only absorb a limited amount of moisture before it becomes saturated, therefore it is important to prevent moisture from entering the system, and to remove any moisture which inadvertently entered the system through a leak or an open connection.
- Attach and operate the evacuation/recharge equipment being used per the manufacturer's instructions.
