Customer Safety Information
1. Catalytic converters reach operating temperatures of 1200 °F (650 °C). Do not park vehicles over objects or materials that could ignite (dry leaves, cardboard, puddles of oil, etc.). Converters remain hot for some time after engine shut down.2. Some exhaust gas components, such as carbon monoxide, are toxic. Do not run the engine in confined areas or breathe concentrated exhaust gases. Breathing exhaust gases may cause loss of consciousness and death.
3. Repair exhaust system leaks as soon as possible. Escaping gases can ignite flammable materials and/or set the vehicle on fire. Exhaust from a leak may also circulate through the passenger compartment, causing symptoms such as throat, sinus, or eye irritation, light headedness, headaches and increased irritability. This hazard is particularly pronounced while driving with windows closed.
4. Be alert for fuel odors and excessive tailpipe emission (black smoke, etc.); these are problem indicators.
