Procedure "D":
If vibration exists between 30/50 mph at steady speed, first check the propshaft as detailed below.NOTE: Do not disturb the 3 bolts mounting the rear coupling to the propshaft.
Propshaft Alignment:
^ Check the gearbox mountings and ensure that is set correctly. The gearbox center stud should be central to the inspection hole the base of the cross-member.
^ Ensure that the gearbox cross-member is central to the body mountings, not towards one side. Also ensure that there is no side load due to the incorrect setting of the front engine mountings.
FIG. 2:
^ Check the propshaft alignment using plumb lines attached to the propshaft, (Fig. 2). Position plumb-lines at each end of the tube, avoiding welds and balance weights. The distance difference between the center plumb-line and the straight line through the fore and aft plumb-lines should be 19 mm (allowing for the difference in the propshaft tube diameter.
Vertical alignment can be achieved by adding spacers.
Propshaft to Differential Flange Relationship:
^ Rotate the rear joint 120~ either way.
^ If this does not improve the condition, retain the rear joint in its present position and rotate the front joint 180~. Ensure the joint face is clean and that the propshaft flange is correctly positioned into the gearbox flange.
