Hydraulic System - Testing w/Power Hydraulic Tester: Overview

SECTION: 66

HYDRAULICS

Model: XJ6 3.6

Date: JANUARY, 1989

KEY POINTS: POWER HYDRAULIC DIAGNOSTIC KIT

When testing the power hydraulic system on XJ6 3.6 vehicles, the Power Hydraulic Diagnostic Kit (JAG 1509) should be used. The kit will diagnose a hydraulic fault, (i.e. faulty hydraulic pump or fluid leakage). If an electrical hydraulic system fault exists, (i.e. valve block or accumulator switch), JDS should be used to test the system.

Before testing the power hydraulic system, ensure the brake and power hydraulic system reservoir fluid levels are correct (and remain correct throughout the test). Also check the pipes, major hydraulic components and ride levelling rear struts for leaks or damage.

CAUTION:
The power hydraulic system uses Jaguar/Castrol Hydraulic System Mineral Oil, (JLM 9886) Contamination by as little as 1 percent of the brake or power hydraulic system fluids will damage the seals and cause brake or power hydraulic failure.

The power hydraulic diagnostic kit contains a parts list (under the gauges). Use only the green identified pipe and adaptors for XJ6 3.6 vehicles.

For additional kit components, refer to Parts Information Bulletin E88-IB-72.

NOTE:
JDS must be used to test the Bosch Anti-Lock Braking System.

To test the power hydraulic system, the following diagnostic chart should be used beginning with test 1.
