Fuel Starvation

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT, WHEN A VEHICLE IS OPERATED WITH A

QUARTER TANK OF FUEL OR LESS, UNDER HEAVY BRAKING OR SHARP

CORNERING MANEUVERS, A TEMPORARY FUEL STARVATION CONDITION

WILL ARISE. THIS CONDITION IS CAUSED BY THE RUBBER FUEL

RETURN HOSE COMING ADRIFT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK ITSELF. IN

ORDER TO VERIFY THIS CONDITION, IT IS NECESSARY TO DRAIN THE

FUEL TANK AND REMOVE THE FUEL TANK SENDER UNIT. IT IS THEN

POSSIBLE TO VIEW THE FUEL RETURN HOSE CONNECTIONS INSIDE THE

TANK WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE SENDER APERTURE. TO CORRECT

THE CONDITION, THE LOOSE END OF THE HOSE SHOULD BE PULLED

THROUGH THE TOP OF THE TANK AND A STAINLESS STEEL HOSE CLAMP

PUT OVER THE FREE END OF THE HOSE. WITH A PAIR OF LONG

FORCEPS IT IS THEN POSSIBLE TO MANEUVER THE HOSE BACK ON TO

THE PLASTIC ELBOW WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE FORWARD SIDE OF

THE TANK. THE HOSE CLAMP SHOULD BE SECURED UTILIZING A 1/4"

DRIVE SOCKET WITH A FLEXIBLE EXTENSION. EXPERIENCE TO DATE

HAS SHOWN THAT THE ELBOW END OF THE HOSE IS SUBJECT TO THIS

CONDITION, EVEN THOUGH THE OPPOSITE END OF THE HOSE HAS NO

CLAMP. EFFECTIVE AT VEHICLE 519425, BOTH ENDS OF THIS

RETURN FUEL HOSE ARE POSITIVELY CLAMPED TO PREVENT THE

CHANCE OF DISPLACEMENT.
