Symptom Unstable Temperature

SERVICE INFORMATION

To prevent climate control system temperature instability and slow temperature sensing, a revised sensor assembly is available through Zone Parts Departments.

With the kit installed, the sensor response time and temperature overshoot are reduced and the operation of the face/foot level differential control is improved.

NOTE:
This revision will be incorporated on 1990 M.Y. vehicles as a mid-year running change.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

To install the revised sensor assembly, use the following procedure:

1. Record all present AM and FM radio station frequencies.

2. Switch ignition 'OFF' and disconnect battery negative lead.

3. Remove passenger side dash liner and lower ventilator assembly.





4. Mark and drill lower ventilator tray as indicated in Fig. 1.





5. Install bracket (see Fig.2 , A) to the electric motor assembly (see Fig. 2, B) using the two screws supplied in kit.

6. Install motor/bracket assembly to the ventilator tray assembly (see fig.3), with the two rivets supplied in kit.





7. Connect rubber hose (see Fig.2, C) to the electric motor assembly (see Fig.2, B).

8. Connect the rubber elbow hose (Fig.2, D) to the ventilator tray assembly.

9. Install the sensor assembly (see Fig.2, E).

10. Using contact cement, position and adhere the blanking plate over the outer ventilator tray outlet (see Fig.2, F).

11. Position ventilator tray in footwell area (do not install at this point).

12. Remove glove box access panel.

13. Disconnect the existing sensor harness connector multiplug "AC7" and connect the new link harness (Fig.2, G) between "AC7" and the new sensor (see Fig.2, E).





14. Connect the electric motor link harness (Fig.2, H) 15-way "Takbro" connector to the lower electronic control module diagnostic socket "AC4" (see Fig. 4).

15. Connect the opposite end of the link harness (see Fig.2, H) to the male socket ( Fig. 2, which is supplied with the motor assembly harness (see Fig.2, K).





16. Insert the cable Lucar connectors into the male socket (see Fig.2, J) ensuring the cable colors are as indicated in Figure 5.

17. Install ventilator tray assembly.

18. Secure cables as necessary using the 3-ratchet straps supplied in kit.

19. Reconnect battery and check operation.

20. Reset previously selected radio stations and reset clock.

21. Re-install trim liners.
