SERVICE INTERVAL CHECKS:

NOTE: The following checks must be performed at every 7500 mile service interval. (The period between services must not exceed six months).

Inertia Switch:

^ The inertia switch is located in the driver's footwell. Ensure all doors except the driver's door are closed.

^ With driver's door open, press down the door locking button, which will lock all doors.

^ Switch ignition "ON" (position II). Close door latch using a screwdriver or similar object. The diagonal belts should now move to the restrained position.

^ Raise the inertia switch test/reset button. The door should unlock, the diagonal belts should remain in the restrained position, and the instrument display should be off.

^ Open the driver's door latch. The automatic diagonal belts should not move from the restrained position. Leave the front doors open and reset the inertia switch (by depressing the button). The instrument display should be illuminated and the diagonal belts should move to the unrestrained position.

^ Ensure that the central locking system functions by locking and unlocking the doors. Switch ignition "OFF".

Seat Belt Warnings:

^ Sit in driver's seat, close driver's door and turn ignition to position II. The diagonal belt should deploy to the restrained position.

^ The seat belt warning light and the VCM seat belt symbol should become illuminated for approximately 6 seconds, or until the diagonal belt is in the restrained position.

^ Release the belt buckle from the runner (by pressing red button on the buckle). The seat belt warning light and VCM seat belt symbol should illuminate.
^ Attach the belt buckle to the runner with the red "PRESS" button facing inboard. Switch ignition switch "OFF" to release the seat belt.

NOTE: During these checks, the audible warning should operate for approximately 6 seconds from the time the ignition was switched "ON" and the driver's diagonal belt is in the unrestrained position.

Reverse Gear Inhibit Switch:

^ Apply parking brake.

^ Sit in driver's seat, close driver's door and turn ignition to position "II". The diagonal belt should deploy to the restrained position and the seat belt warning light should switch off.

^ Select reverse gear and open driver's door. The diagonal belt should remain in the restrained position. Ensuring that driver's body is not in the path of the deploying seat belt, disengage reverse gear. The diagonal belt should deploy to the unrestrained position.
