Owner Letter
March 9, 1992Safety Recall Campaign R374
Dear Jaguar Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Jaguar Cars Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in a range of 1989 through 1991 model year XJS vehicles. This range includes your vehicle as identified by the Vehicle Identification Number on the enclosed "Campaign Claim" form. The Vehicle Identification Number quoted on the "Campaign Claim" form is on a metal plate attached to the left-hand side of the vehicle's windshield frame.
On vehicles bearing a VIN number within this affected group, it is possible that the high tension lead from the ignition coil to the distributor can move from its proper location. This may result in it coming into contact with a fuel injector hose, causing possible ozone degradation of the hose. In extreme cases, the hose may crack or split, causing fuel leakage with the possibility of an underhood fire
Should a fuel leak occur, do not drive your vehicle. Contact the nearest Jaguar dealer for assistance.
Contact your selling dealer, (if this proves inconvenient, contact any authorized Jaguar dealer), and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired without charge to you. The dealer will install revised high tension leads and if necessary, a fuel injector.
The labor time to complete the repair is from one half to two hours. Initial parts supplies will be available at your dealer on March 23, 1992.
Please be sure to sign the "Campaign Claim" form in the space provided and present it to your dealer upon completion of the work. The dealer will then send us the form so we can be sure your vehicle has been repaired.
If you no longer own this vehicle, please refer to the instructions on the last page of the "Campaign Claim" form. If possible, provide the name and address of the present owner in order that we may send a recall notification.
If, after you have contacted your dealer, you experience any difficulties in obtaining the necessary repairs, please contact Jaguar Cars Inc. Customer Relations Department, (201) 818-8500.
If your dealer does not carry out this work without charge and within 60 days of your first delivering the vehicle for repairs, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Washington, DC 20590, or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at (800) 424-9393 (Washington, DC area residents may call 366-0123). We request that you also contact the Customer Relations department at Jaguar Cars Inc., 555 MacArthur Blvd., Mahwah, NJ 07430, (201) 818-8500.
We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause you, but we know you will understand that we took this action to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
