Removal and Installation

1. Remove three bolts securing cruise control actuator to A/C compressor and disconnect actuator wire harness connector.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator and lay actuator aside.
3. Remove ignition wires.

4. Remove vent hoses from distributor cap and remove cap.
5. Loosen air pump belt adjusting bracket and remove belt from A/C compressor.
6. Remove compressor mounting bolts, two front and two rear, and carefully lift compressor and move it forward slightly. It is not necessary to disconnect any freon hoses. This will give access to front two spark plugs.
7. Before removing spark plugs, inspect around each plug and remove any debris that may fall into combustion chamber when spark plug is removed.
8. Remove spark plugs. Be careful of vacuum advance unit.

NOTE: Snap-On tool # FSX1220, works very well for plug removal.
It is recommended that a compression test is performed when spark plugs are removed.

Checking Spark Plug For Wear, Damage, Or Deposits:

9. Check and adjust plug gap to 0.64 mm (0.025 in).
10. When refitting spark plugs, start by hand. Be sure to avoid any cross-threading.
11. Refit A/C compressor and belt. Adjust belt tension.
12. Refit distributor cap and vent hoses.
13. Refit ignition wires. Be sure each boot is fully seated.
14. Refit vacuum hose to cruise control actuator and reconnect actuator wire harness connector.
15. Refit actuator to A/C compressor.
