JDS - Software Issue 4036 Electrical Systems

90jaguar05 JAGUAR
JDS SOFTWARE DIAGNOSTIC
SYSTEM No. 54

Model: XJ-S Date: AUGUST, 1990

KEY POINTS: ISSUE DBC 4036
Software issue 4036 replaces issue 4035 and should be used for diagnosing the following XJ-S electrical systems:

^ Air conditioning/heater
^ Engine management
^ Anti-lock braking
^ Central door locking
^ Power top and rear quarter windows (convertible)

Software issue 4036 does not have serial communication capability. Only faults that can be consistently reproduced in the workshop sbould be tested. Intermittent faults must not be tested using software issue 4036.

ENGINE MANAGEMENT:

Tests for the Engine Management system are listed under two headings; Fuel Injection and Marelli Ignition. Both tests contain subtests that allow selection/testing of individual circuits. After subtest selection and testing, "pass" or "fail" will illuminate next to the title. When a fault exists, a trace identifying the faulty circuit will be produced and "fail" will illuminate on the screen. "Fail" will remain on the screen until the fault is corrected and the test is repeated.

NOTE: All static tests must indicate "pass" before any dynamic (running) tests can be performed.

The engine management test will indicate a faulty circuit or advise further testing of the component most likely at fault. The JDS operator should use the trace as a guide for final fault diagnosis, in conjunction with the proper reference material (such as the XJ-S Electrical Guide).
NOTE: A trace printed during an engine management test will identify a faulty area of circuit. When a component is listed, do not assume the component is defective. Fault descriptions are to aid the diagnostic procedure, not complete it.

AIR CONDITIONING/HEATER:

Due to the revised mode switch, it is not possible to test the 1990 MY Convertible climate control system using JDS.

JDS must not be used to test A/C systems which exhibit any of the following faults:

^ Temperature calibration incorrect (in car temperature warmer or colder than selected temperature).

^ Temperature drifting warmer cold from setting.

^ Non-operation of an A/C flap.

When any of the above conditions exist, conventional diagnostic procedures should be used.
