Lower Control Arm

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
2. Remove pinch bolt (1), securing lower steering column to rack pinion. Fig. 4.
3. Remove bolt, washer and self locking nut securing steering rack to crossmember.
4. Remove two lower mounting bolts, washers and nuts, securing steering rack to crossmember.
5. Note position and number of steering rack packing washers for reassembly.
6. Release steering rack from crossmember and retrieve packing washers.
7. Remove exhaust downpipe from manifold.
8. Install spring compressor tool No. JD5G or equivalent. Compress spring sufficiently to relieve pressure on spring seat pan.
9. Remove bolts and nuts securing spring seat pan to lower control arm.
10. Loosen spring compressor and remove spring seat pan, spring and packers.
11. Note number and position of packers for reassembly.
12. Remove cotter pin, castellated nut and washer from end of lower control arm fulcrum shaft. Drive out shaft.
13. Remove inner bolt, nut and washer securing upper ball joint to upper control arm. Loosen outer nut and bolt.
14. Note position of caster shims and packing pieces before removing.
15. Pull top of hub and knuckle out, swivel to gain access to self locking nut securing lower ball joint to knuckle.
16. Remove self locking nut and plain washer. Separate ball joint.
17. Remove two bolts and nuts securing front damper and anti roll bar brackets to lower control arm.
18. Compress shock and remove.
19. Remove lower control arm and washers.
20. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications and check wheel alignment.
