Flex Plate: Service and Repair
- Remove the torque converter.Drive Plate:
- Push back the lock tabs and remove the drive plate securing bolts (1).
- Remove the tab washer and stiffener plate.
- Draw two locating dowels from the drive plate (2).
CAUTION: If a draw bolt is to be used, turn the crankshaft so that the draw bolt reacts against the rear main bearing cap, NOT the cylinder block. Use of a slide hammer is recommended.
- Remove the drive plate.
- Clean and examine all components, replace as necessary.
- Thoroughly clean all mating faces.
- Fit the replacement drive plate.
- Tap the dowels partially through the drive plate to locate in the crankshaft flange.
- Refit the stiffener plate and a new tab washer.
- Fit and tighten the securing bolts.
- Lock over the tabs.
- Tap the dowels fully home.
- Refit the torque converter.
