Electronic Transmission Test:

The only method of identifying electrical transmission faults is by using JDS. When a transmission component or harness fault occurs, the transmission warning light illuminates. The transmission ECU can identify intermittent and permanent faults and inform the technician how many times the fault occurred.

NOTE: Although the transmission warning light is primarily used to identify electrical faults, the warning can be illuminated when a mechanical fault occurs. Before using JDS, always refer to the transmission fault diagnosis guide in the XJ6 Service Manual, Book 3, page 44-32.

^ JDS will begin a transmission test by asking that pod 7 be connected. Communication will then be established with the ECU. A Bosh hardware and software number, the ECU part number and a ZF part number is listed on the trace.

^ Next, the area of the fault will be displayed on the screen:

- Permanent faults are highlighted

- Intermittent faults are not highlighted

^ JDS then produces a fault table on the trace that provides intermittent fault diagnosis information.
