KEY POINTS: WATER INGRESS INTO TRUNK VIA LOCK BARREL

To prevent water from entering the trunk via the trunk lock barrel on 1990 MY Sedan Range vehicles, a revised trunk lock finisher base has been introduced beginning with VIN 616664. The revised base incorporates water drainage channels on the lower edge, (Fig. 1).

FIG. 2:

If trunk water ingress occurs on pre-vin 616664 vehicles, the following procedure should be used to allow water to drain from the trunk base finisher:

^ Open the trunk lid and remove the chrome base finisher and the rubber mounting gasket.

^ Place the rubber gasket on a block of wood and place the block on a work bench.

^ From the gasket center, measure 50 mm in each direction along the bottom edge of the gasket. Using a 5 mm hole punch, cut out holes at the 2 x 50 mm measured positions on the gasket, (Fig. 2).
^ Install the base and gasket onto the trunk lid.
