Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
RemoveRemove the spoiler/under tray to inner wheel arch cover.
Fan & Water Pump:
Remove the nuts securing the torquatrol unit to the water pump (1,2).
Fan Shroud Clip:
Remove the fan cowl securing clips (1) and lift out the cowl and torquatrol unit complete.
Remove the A/C drive belt.
Remove the A/C drive pulley.
Slacken the alternator drive belt adjusting nut, the link arm adjusting nut, and the alternator pivot bolt. Pivot the alternator towards the engine and remove the drive belt.
Fit Service Tool 18G 1437 to the crankshaft pulley and tighten the securing bolts.
Special Tool 18G 1437:
Wedge the tool against the crossmember (4).
Remove the pulley retaining bolt (1).
Remove Service Tool 18G 1437 from the pulley.
Front Crankshaft Pulley:
Fit Service Tool 18G 1436 to the pulley (1) and tighten the securing bolts (2).
Tighten the center bolt, withdraw the pulley from the crankshaft and remove the tool.
Remove the woodruff key and spacer.
Front Seal Tool:
Remove the old oil seal from the timing cover using Service Tool JD 128 (A).
Refit
Fit the new oil seal (piior to fitting the crank spacer) using Service Tool JD 1 29 and the crankshaft pulley bolt (B).
Inspect the edges of the spacer for nicks, burrs and wear marks. Replace if necessary.
Refit the woodruff key.
Fit the pulley to the engine, hand tighten the securing bolt and fit Service Tool 18G 1437.
Wedge the tool against the front crossmember, torque tighten the securing bolt and remove Service Tool 18G 1437.
Re-position the alternator drive belt over the pulleys and refit the air conditioning belt (if fitted).
Refit the torquatrol unit/fan cowl assembly into position. Fit the cowl securing clips
Fit and tighten the torquatrol unit securing nuts.
Refit the spoiler/under tray.
Tension the alternator drive belt. A load of 1.5kg must give a total deflection of 4.5mm when applied to the mid-point of the belt.
Tension the air conditioning drive belt and tighten the securing bolts.
