Fuel Tank: Service and Repair



CAUTION: Observe all fire hazard precautions detailed in FUEL SYSTEMS / SERVICE PRECAUTIONS, when working on open fuel systems.
Fuel system MUST be depressurized before disconnecting any fuelling component.

1. Depressurize fuel system. Fuel Pressure Release
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Drain fuel tank into suitable container.
4. Lift car on hoist.
5. Remove clips securing fuel supply and return hoses and disconnect from fuel tank. Fit protective plugs to open hoses and tank.
6. Remove sealing rings from hoses and lower car.
7. Open trunk and remove spare tire.
8. Remove floor carpet, right liner, left liner, and front liner.
9. Note position of wiring and disconnect from fuel tank sending unit.
10. Remove bolts securing spare wheel mounting bracket and remove bracket.

Fuel Tank:





11. Loosen tank retaining strap to lower bracket fasteners.
12. Remove tank strap lower bracket fasteners and move straps away for access.
13. Remove tank upper insulation pad.
14. Disconnect hose from evaporative control one way valve.

Fuel Filler Neck:





15. Remove drain tubes from filler neck.
16. Remove drain tube filler neck strap.
17. Unclip cable harness from tank clips.
18. Remove relay from mounting bracket for access.
19. Remove filler neck bolts.
20. Remove fuel tank.
21. Refit tank in reverse order.
22. Be sure to use new sealing rings and 'O' rings where fitted.
23. Check for leaks.
