ABS - Procedure If Harness Connectors Become Loose

Model: 90 MY SEDAN RANGE Date: APRIL, 1990

KEY POINTS: ABS RELAY HOUSING
If the ABS pump relay (DAC 4506) requires replacement or disconnection on early 1990 MY sedan vehicles, it may be necessary to perform the following procedure if the harness connectors become loose/disconnected.


NOTE: Relay bases identified with a A.M.P. logo, or a red or purple spot are not affected.
^ Disconnect the battery.

^ Remove the relay and terminal housing from the mounting bracket.

^ Remove the relay from the terminal housing.

^ Remove the plastic terminal retaining plug from the rear of the terminal housing, fig. 1 & 2.

^ Remove one of the heavy duty spade terminals from the terminal housing, fig. 3.

FIG. 4:




^ Check and set the height of the terminal lance, fig. 4.
^ Reinstall the terminal to the terminal block cavity and ensure that it is fully latched.

^ Repeat the last 3 steps on the remaining heavy-duty spade terminals.

^ Replace the terminal retaining plug in the correct orientation, ensuring it is fully installed and latched in the housing.

^ Reinstall the relay to the housing.

^ Ensure that the terminal retaining plug is still fully engaged.

^ Remount the relay and the housing to the mounting bracket.

^ Reconnect the battery.

Repair Operation: 86.55.65 Renew pump relay W/JDS test
Time Allowance: 0.40 hrs.
Repair Operation: 86.55.65/09 Renew pump relay w/out JDS test
Time Allowance: 0.10 hrs.

If additional time is required due to a loose or disconnected terminal, the following applies:

Repair Operation: Follow standard procedure for "Shop Time" application using 86.55 as the first four positions.
Time Allowance: "Shop Time" to perform terminal repair.
