Steering Wheel With Airbag

- Open the driver's door.
- Centralize the road wheels.
- Release the tilt column lever and tilt the steering column fully down.
- Turn the steering wheel (2) 90° and remove the air bag securing nut cover (black).
- Unscrew and remove the securing nut.
- Turn the steering wheel 180° and remove a second securing nut cover.
- Unscrew and remove the securing nut.
- Turn the steering wheel 90° and release the air bag module arming cover from its position.
- Fit service tool JD 159 to torque screwdriver 18G 681.
- Turn the arming screw (4) fully anti-clockwise to its stop to disarm the module.
- Slide the air bag module securing bolt cover and turn the arming screw to secure the cover.
- Unscrew the air bag securing bolt.
- Remove the air bag module.
- Centralize the road wheels and remove the ignition key.
- Slacken the nut securing the steering wheel to the shaft, do not fully remove.
- Pull steering wheel to release from the shaft, remove the securing nut and steering wheel.
- Clean any old grease from the shaft and apply a thin film of new, clean grease.
- Remove the cancellation ring securing screws and remove the ring from the steering wheel.
- Fit the cancellation ring to the new steering wheel.
- Fit the new steering wheel to the shaft ensuring that it is in the straight ahead position.
- Fit and torque tighten the securing nut.
- Turn the steering wheel to access the air bag module securing bolt hole.
- Fit the air bag module to the steering wheel then fit and tighten the securing bolt to fully seat the module.
- Using service tools JD 159 and 18G 681, screw in the arming screw to arm the module.
- Remove the service tools and close the arming screw cover.
- Turn the steering wheel 90°.
- Fit and tighten the securing nut then fit the securing nut cover.
- Turn the steering wheel 180°.
- Fit and tighten the securing nut then fit the securing nut cover.
- Release the tilt column lever and tilt the column to its final position.
- Close the door.
