PAS RACK HYDRAULIC NOISE

Model: 90-91 MY SEDANS Date: APRIL, 1991

KEYPOINTS: DIAGNOSIS

ISSUE:

Unnecessary power steering rack replacements due to noise.

ACTION:

Do Not replace the steering rack assembly.

Steering rack noise (when turning the steering wheel quickly a half a turn from side to side) comes from the steering rack valve body.

If a continuous hydraulic noise is heard while turning the wheel slowly from lock to lock:

^ Check that the PAS reservoir oil level is correct.

^ Make sure that there are no restrictions in the suction line from the reservoir, or in the reservoir itself.

NOTE: Inform customers that some hydraulic valve noise is normal and that no fault exists.
