Filler Neck and Cap Design - Revised

90jaguar01

PAS/RIDE LEVEL RESERVOIR SECTION: 66
No: 10

Model: '90 MY SEDANS Date: JANUARY, 1990

KEY POINTS: REVISED FILLER NECK/CAP
Beginning with VIN 601983, 1990 MY sedan vehicles incorporate a new power steering/ride level system reservoir with a revised filler neck and cap design. The new reservoir is identified by six semi-circular "finger grip" indents spaced around the outer diameter (compared with the four lugs used on the earlier design).

NOTE: The new filler cap cannot be used with the old type reservoir, due to differences in the configuration of the reservoir neck.

If H.S.M.O. fluid leaks from the reservoir/filler cap seal on 1990 MY vehicles prior to VIN 601983, a cap seal (CCC 2782) is available from Zone Parts Departments. For seal installation, refer to the following procedure:

^ Remove the filler cap from the reservoir and remove the seal from behind the retaining flange, (fig. 1 A).

^ Discard the seal. Clean and cap the reservoir neck.
^ Position the new seal in the cap, seating the seal against the retaining flange, (fig. 1 B). Do not position the new seal behind the retaining flange.

^ Check the fluid level and top up if necessary.

^ Replace the filler cap.

NOTE: This procedure supersedes the use of adhesive as indicated in Technical Bulletin Section 66, Number 8.
