Convertible Top Sealing Revised Top Adjustment Cam

ISSUE:

Improved sealing of the convertible top.

ACTION:

A revised top adjustment cam is used on vehicles beginning with VIN 162000.

FIG. 1:

To install the revised convertible top cam on pre-VIN 162000 vehicles, use the following procedure:

^ Apply the parking brake and shift the transmission to Park or Neutral.

^ Release the convertible top front clamping hooks.

^ Switch the ignition to position I and operate the top to the half-open position.

^ Measure from the front cantilever bar mounting bushing 39 mm rearward along the retraction bar (Fig. 1).


^ Measure to the center of the width of the retraction bar.

^ Place a support block behind the retraction bar. At the crosspoint of the above dimensions, mark the position with a center punch.

^ Place a protective covering around the work area.

^ Using a drill with a 3 mm bit, drill out a hole at the position marked with the center punch. Drill out the mounting hole using a 8 mm bit.


^ De-burr the hole and remove the protective covering. Clean away all debris from the area.

^ Repeat this procedure on the other side.

^ Position the cam body to the outside of the retraction bar, making sure that the cam lobe is facing upwards.

^ Install and tighten the nut which mounts the cam to the inside-of the retraction bar. Repeat this procedure on the opposite side.

^ Operate the top to the closed position and lock the top clamping hooks. Close the windows and doors.

^ Check the seal between the glass and the window seal.

FIG. 2:

With the cam installed, top adjustment can be made as follows:

^ Release the top clamping hooks and operate the top to the half-open position.

^ Loosen the retraction bar cam mounting bolt (Fig. 2 A) and rotate the cam (Fig. 2 B) to increase/decrease the adjustment as necessary.

^ After adjustment, fully tighten the cam mounting bolt
