Timing Chain: Service and Repair
- Remove the timing cover. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES / TIMING COVER.Sprocket Retaining Tool:
- Fit JD 39 Sprocket Retainer to the jackshaft.
- Disconnect the timing chain from the camshaft and jackshaft sprockets.
- Withdraw the crankshaft sprocket and timing chain.
CAUTION: Do not rotate the engine while the chain and sprockets are disconnected.
- Examine all components for wear and damage. Replace worn or damaged components as necessary.
- Engage the crankshaft sprocket in the new timing chain.
- Fit the sprocket/chain assembly to the camshaft and jackshaft sprockets.
- Remove JD 39 Sprocket Retainer.
- Refit the timing cover. Refer to COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES / TIMING COVER.
