Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The TDC (top dead center) sensor generates an 8° ATDC reference for each cylinder on BANK A. Crankshaft position determined from BANK A is entered into IGNITION ECM timing calculations for all cylinders.
OPERATION
The sensor is an inductive pick-up device triggered by a three-toothed reluctor attached to the crank pulley. Without TDC sensor input, the engine will not start.
TDC Sensor:
LOCATION
At front of engine adjacent to crankshaft pulley.
