Electro-Hydraulic Brake/Ride Levelling Testing - Page 12

The following describes the use of the Jaguar Power Hydraulic Diagnostic test equipment, in conjunction with JDS, to enable accurate diagnosis of faults on XJ6 power boost/ride levelling systems.

Bosch ABS Test

All diagnostic testing of the Bosch ABS (anti-lock braking system) must be performed using the JDS. There is no facility to test the hydraulic operation of this system with the hydraulic test equipment.

Power Hydraulics Test

Initial diagnostic testing of the power hydraulic system must be performed using the hydraulic test equipment (not JDS). Using the diagnostic procedure laid out in the fault tree. The hydraulic test will either diagnose a hydraulic fault, e.g. pump, fluid leakage, or, indicate a fault that may be hydraulic or electrical (only valve block or accumulator switch faults fall into this category). If the fault indicated is of the latter type, perform a JDS test using the "Power Hydraulics menu".

Preliminary Instructions

Ensure that the fluid level is correct in the brake and power hydraulic system reservoirs. Visually check the pipes, major hydraulic components and ride levelling rear struts for leaks or damage.

The power hydraulic system uses Jaguar/Castrol Hydraulic System Mineral Oil "HSMO".

WARNING: CONTAMINATION BY AS LITTLE AS 1 PER CENT OF THE BRAKE OR POWER HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FLUIDS WILL CAUSE RAPID DETERIORATION OF THE SEALS AND CAUSE BRAKE OR POWER HYDRAULIC FAILURE.

Items of the equipment described in this text are identified using the codes designated on the contents list. Use only the green identified pipe and adaptors in the hydraulic test equipment for the XJ6 2.9, 3.2, 3.6 and 4.0 models.

Ensure that the level in the power hydraulic reservoir is correct throughout the tests. Start the test routine from Test "1" and continue as directed to the remaining tests.

Note: Under ideal conditions this test routine should be performed at 20 degrees Centigrade (room temperature).
