STEERING COLUMN LOCK

KEY POINTS:
LOCK BARREL REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
ISSUE:
Steering column lock barrel replacement procedure.
This procedure is not included in the Repair Manual or any other Service Literature.
ACTION:
^ Remove the instrument panel illumination knob.
^ Remove the steering column lower cowl. (It is not necessary to remove the top cowl).
^ Turn the key to the auxiliary position.
^ Depress the lock barrel retaining pin (Fig. 1 A) and remove the lock barrel.
NOTE:
To depress the retaining pin, use a 1/16" welding rod with a 90~ bend 1/4" from the end of the rod.
^ Insert the key into the new lock barrel assembly.
^ Align the lock barrel to the steering column lock and install the lock barrel. Make sure that the retaining peg has engaged.
^ Check the operation of the lock and install the lower cowl and the panel illumination knob.
