Transmission-Harsh Shift Introduction of Replacement Parts

MODEL 90-91 MY Sedans DATE 5/91


ISSUE:

Customer complaints of poor shift quality during the 1-2, 3-4 upshift (at light throttle) and at 4th gear lock-up.

ACTION:

The following replacement parts have been introduced:

^ Valve body - EBC 4410
^ Transmission ECU - DBC 6162 (DBC 10110 from VIN 642173)

These parts will only repair harsh shift complaints on vehicles with the following transmission components:


^ A Transmission prior to gearbox serial # 42731.
^ Transmission ECU - DBC 5080


NOTE: ECU DBC 10110 (or DBC 6162) must only be installed on transmissions with Serial number 42731 and onwards or if valve body EBC 4410 has been installed.


SERVICE ADVISOR NOTE: Determine the exact conditions of the complaint by road testing the vehicle with the customer.


On vehicles where a shift quality problem is identified, a request for replacement parts must be authorized by your Zone Service Hotline. The following information is required:

^ VIN Number
^ Mileage
^ Customer's Name
^ Transmission Serial Number
^ Part Number of the Transmission ECU Installed
^ Fault Description


Where failure of the ECU or valve body has occurred, the specification of the replacement component supplied will be the same as or equivalent to the original.

SERVICE ADVISOR NOTE: On vehicles equipped with the latest components, an extended 1-2 shift at very light throttle and a slight thump when 4th gear lock-up engages at engine speeds of 1900-2300 rpm may still occur.

These conditions are a characteristic of the specification.
