ISSUE:

The fuel injection system On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) code 89 indicates an electrical fault in the purge valve circuit.

For 1990 MY Sedans up to VIN 616983, the purge valve circuit displayed in the Engine Management diagram of the 1990 MY Sedan Range Electrical Guide (S 65/90) is incorrect.

ACTION:

When OBD code 89 is stored, inspect the purge valve circuit wiring and connections, including:

^ Connector LI18 (yellow PM4 under the air cleaner housing).

^ Battery supply connection for the left side fuse box (bulkhead battery positive studs behind the left and right blower motor housings and adjacent to the battery).

^ Left side fuse box connections.

^ Connector LS125 (purge valve connector).

^ Connector LB28 (yellow PM4 behind right under-dash panel).

^ The wire from the purge valve to the engine management ECU.

^ The wire from the purge valve to the left side fuse box.





For 1990 MY Sedans up to VIN 616983, use the purge valve circuit diagram.

The diagram in the Electrical Guide is correct for 1990 MY Sedans from VIN 616984 onwards.
