ISSUE:
Intermittent or permanent electrical bulkhead harness failures atthe steering column "W" bracket can be caused by the bulkhead harness rubbing between the fascia and the "W" bracket.
ACTION:
If the bulkhead harness has a short to ground or if pushing the instrument pack forward blows a fuse, the harness routing should be inspected as follows:
^ Remove the fascia assembly (refer to Sedan Range Repair Manual, Repair Operation 76.46.01/90).
^ Inspect the routing of the bulkhead harness around the steering column "W" bracket, (Fig. 1 A).
^ If the harness has been trapped or damaged, repair using the procedure detailed in Repair Operation 86.70.00.
^ If the harness cannot be repaired, replace using the procedure detailed in Repair Operation 86.70.09.
NOTE:
The harness must be rerouted away from the "W" bracket before fascia installation.
^ Wrap a 10" tie wrap (C-46294) around the bulkhead harness 2" to the right of the "W" bracket and around the bulkhead wiring that goes down along the side of the bracket.
^ Tighten the tie wrap only as much as required to draw the harness away from the bracket.
^ Place 4" of foam trim pad (BBC 4861/5) between the harness and "W" bracket.
