A Quick Reference Guide (S 89) which describes system operation and the limited lifetime warranty has been mailed to vehicle owners.
Owners have been advised to contact their Jaguar dealer if they believe the belts do not operate correctly.
ACTION:
Fault Diagnosis
Use the Fault Analysis Charts to diagnose and repair faults. For circuit information, refer to the appropriate Electrical Guide passive restraint diagram.
Refer to the Quick Reference Guide for a description of system operation and the limited lifetime warranty.
Customer Note
IMPORTANT!
Under certain vehicle operating conditions, the normal lock function of the inertia reel assembly may cause the diagonal belt to momentarily remain secured and prevent movement to the unrestrained? position for vehicle occupant exit. If the inertial reel remains locked as the diagonal belt attempts to move forward, the belt will increase the pressure on the occupant. THIS CONDITION IS NOT A SYSTEM FAULT. If there is a complaint of this condition, advise the customer to release the inertia reel using the following procedure:
^ Insert the ignition key (XJS models) or move the ignition switch to position II (Sedan range models).
^ Move the seat and/or seat back slightly rearward to relieve the tension on the belt.
^ Slowly pull the seat belt to confirm that the inertia reel has released.
^ Switch off the ignition and remove the key.
^ The diagonal belt will then move to the "unrestrained" (full forward) position.
Alternatively, the diagonal belt can be released from the motorized tongue by pressing the red release button. The belt must be reconnected when the tongue has moved to the full forward position. Refer to the Quick Reference Guide.
Scheduled Maintenance
At each 7500 mile service interval, apply Gleitmo spray lubricant (JAG 311) to the diagonal belt guide rails to prevent chatter of the motorized tongue.
