A/C Defroster Flap Interference - Distortion of Defrost Duct

MODEL 90-92 MY Sedans

ISSUE:

Defroster flap interference due to distortion of the left-hand defrost duct. This may be caused by the bulkhead harness being trapped between the fascia and the "W" bracket.

ACTION:
Refer to the following procedure if this condition occurs:

^ Remove the fascia assembly. Refer to Repair Operation 76.46.01/90 in the Sedan Range Repair Manual.

^ Check the left-hand defroster flap and make sure that it can move fully. Re-align if necessary.

^ Inspect the routing of the bulkhead harness around the steering column "W" bracket.

^ If the harness has been trapped or damaged, repair the harness. Refer to Repair Operation 86.70.00 in the Sedan Range Repair Manual.

^ If the harness cannot be repaired, replace the harness. Refer to Repair Operation 86.70.09 in the Sedan Range Repair Manual.

NOTE:
The harness must always be re-routed away from the "W" bracket before fascia re-installation.

^ Wrap one 10" tie wrap (C-46294) around the bulkhead harness 2" to the right of the "W" bracket and around the bulkhead wiring that is routed down along the side of the bracket.

^ Tighten the tie wrap only as much as is required to draw the harness away from the bracket.

^ Position 4" of foam trim pad (BBC 4861/5) between the harness and the "W" bracket.

^ Install the fascia.
