Crankshaft Bearings - Size Graded Journals Intro. - Select Bearing Inserts

Size graded crankshaft bearings have been introduced on 4.0 liter engines from engine number 164637 and on all 6.0 liter V12 engines.

New 4.0L and V12 crankshafts supplied through Zone Parts Departments also have size graded bearing journals.

There are now three size grades for each connecting rod and main bearing journals.

ACTION:

Ungraded inserts continue to be available for engines built prior to the introduction of graded bearings.

When ordering crankshaft bearing inserts for engines with size graded bearings, or when installing a new crankshaft on 4.OL or V12 engine, use the following procedure to select the correct bearing inserts.





1. Record the size code for each bearing journal, stamped into the number one balance weight of the crankshaft. The size grades are represented by letters corresponding to a color code, e.g. P = pink, W = white, G = green. Refer to Fig. 1.








2. Select the part number for the correct bearing inserts for each journal from the charts. The inserts are also identified by the color code on one edge.
